Long neck

NOTE: I have a revised version of this with built-in leg holes in another post. (See Giraffe 2.0 on the labels bar.)

This is the first pattern I wrote, and it was a revision of a horrible mess up the first time. I had only been crocheting about 3 months by the time I started on this. He still probably needs a few adjustments, but the end result is pretty cute. And yes, his face/nose is crooked ...but I left it like that. lol

I always thought pictures didn't do crochet justice. Let me know what you think! :)

Pattern is as follows:

Giraffe
NOTE: On some of these rows, it will not end in an even stitch. (For example, you may "1sc in next 2, 2sc in next, rep around" but end in in 1 sc. As long as the end of the round numbers are the same, it works. Please use a marker, as this pattern may still need to be checked by someone. So if you see a mistake, please let me know!)

Head/Body (Yellow):
Magic ring – 6
2sc in each – 12
1sc in first, 2sc in next, rep – 18
1sc in 2, 2sc in next, rep – 24
1sc in 3, 2sc in next, rep – 30
Sc in each around – 30 (x10)

Sc around – 34 (x10)
1 sc in 2, 2sc in next – 44
1sc around – 44
1sc in 2, 2sc in next – 58

1sc in 3, 2sctog – 40

1sc in 2, 2sctog – 24
1 sc in 1, 2sctog – 20

Front feet (brown)

Sc around; in the first round, end by sc into 1st stitch of round. In the 2nd row you will skip that 16th stitch to make 15 – 15 (x8)
Sc in 3, 2sctog – 15
Sc around – 12
Sc in 2, 2sctog – 9
Sc around – 9 (x2)

Switch to yellow
Sc around – 24 (x2)
1sc in 4, 2sctog – 24
1sc in 3, 2sctog – 16
Sc around – 16 (x2)
1sc in 3, 2sctog – 16
Sc around – 13 (x3)
Sc in 2, 2sctog – 13
12” tail, sew on

I had a few issues with redoing this part of the pattern; if the numbers are off at the end of the row by 1, it should still work out okay.

Ears
Magic ring – 6
2sc in each –12
Sc in 4, 2sc in next – 16
Sc in 4, 2sc in next - 18
Sc around in outer – 18
Switch to brown
SC around – 18
2sctog, sc in 2, rep around until you can use needle to stitch closed.

Nose
Magic ring – 6
2sc in each – 12
Sc in 2, 2sc in next, rep around – 16 (x2)
Sc around – 20
Leave a tail, sew on

Horns
Magic Ring 4
In back loops, sc around - 4
Like normal, sc around - 4

Tail
Magic Ring 6
In back loops, sc around - 6
Like normal, sc around - 6 (x3)
I used a few strands of brown and knotted them onto the end to give him a lil "brushy tail". ;) Sorry, picture didn't include what it looked like.

Spots
Magic ring 5
2sc in each – 10
(don’t make these bigger)

Please let me know if you have any comments/issues with the pattern, etc. I would really enjoy feedback, especially of the positive kind! :)

  4. I'm confused with the beginning of the pattern:

    Head/Body (Yellow):
    Magic ring – 6
    2sc in each – 12
    1sc in first, 2sc in next, rep – 18
    1sc in 2, 2sc in next, rep – 24
    1sc in 3, 2sc in next, rep – 30
    Sc in each around – 30 (x10) Working 10 round on 30?
1 sc in 3, 2sctog, rep – 30 How can there still be 30 if decreases were done?
    Thank you,

  5. Yes, the (x10) means 10 rounds. And as for the second line that says 30, that is a mistake. It should read 24.

  7. I hope it works up smoothly! I haven't gotten much feedback on this, other than someone else tried different ears for theirs. Let me know if you have any questions, as this is the first pattern I ever wrote.
